STUDENT WEEK: NIJ STUDENTS ENCOURAGE DIVERSE CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING

The Students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism celebrates their Cultural Day in grand style.
The event which was a feature of the 2022 NIJ Students Week-themed "Exhale", took place on Tuesday, June 21.
Student of the institute showcased their various cultural attires, displaying dancing steps of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria (Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo ) to promote diverse cultural understanding.
The event which took place the second day of their seven days student week was aimed to promote and share cultural heritages among students, during the event students in different attires according to their tribes gave a performance and a presentation in their languages.
The school hall was filled with students and lecturers of the school, the presence of Mr Femi Osuntoki, Mrs Christiana, Mr Michael Osuji and many more.
There were drama presentations in Igbo and Yoruba languages. The event was insightful due to the ideas and opinions shared by different cultures. The Yorubas taught the crowd the proper way of greeting same as the Hausas. The Igbos gave a little enlightenment on how their marriage ceremony are done.
As culture can be defined as all the ways of life including arts, beliefs and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation. Culture has been called "the way of life for an entire society." As such, it includes codes of manners, dress, language, religion, rituals, art and songs.
